Back in the dark ages, around the year 2000 there was virtually no absinthe, which was to have, and

Jaderne!
Sure, we are really well aware of it, here on the mountain tapas that "jader" is a familiar term for a part of the female anatomy that often causes considerable attention from it compared to the woman opposite sex. I am certainly not blind to their appeal, but nevertheless, it should be about something quite different, although we can still find some associations with it (now in relation to yours truly) opposite sex. It should be about hin green fairy, absinten, tapas in one of its finer incarnations.
Back in the dark ages, around the year 2000 there was virtually no absinthe, which was to have, and really was worth drinking. There were various kinds of Czech aviation gasoline, in Copenhagen could get Kruts Karport that most resembled a high-octane version of a mediocre pastis, and then there was a certain selection of Spanish brands as was reasonably drinkable. A whole-hearted attempt to make a good absinthe like in the old days did not exist.
This put Ted Breaux, one biochemist from New Orleans, decided to do something about. He had, by virtue of his daily work access equipment with high precision could analyze the contents of various liquids and spent their leisure time to run samples tapas of original, old absinthe through the mill. He eventually got a good feel for how a selection of the grand old brand was created and founded the company Jade Liqueurs, which launched the closest you can probably get on a recreation of them. This glorious absinthe produced in the distillery Combier in Saumur, a picturesque town in the Loire Valley in affordable distance from the small corner of France, where I find myself writing.
Saturday we saw a bunch that went on a trip here. It had turned out that Ted Breaux itself believed to be the same day, so there was some chance that we would run into him. Saumur is dominated by the castle that towers on a cliff above the town. It looks like an adventure castle, but it's tapas not a movie set or a theme park, it was founded in 900 AD as a defense against marauding Vikings, since torn down and rebuilt.
Combier distillery just celebrated this weekend their 175th birthday. It is located centrally in the city, next to one of the recurring main streets. You move through a gate into an oblong tapas courtyard, and at the bottom left is the small hall where destillationsapparaterne face. Beautiful, old cases in shiny copper.
On Combier, they make a variety of fruit spirits and liqueurs, and then comes Ted Breaux So from time to time by and make absinthe and another tapas specialty, he has developed: tapas Perique, a liquor made of fermented tobacco leaves. He was, as he had announced himself just arrived and took us into a back room. Here were long rows of large, blue barrels with different content. One was full of Edouard, one of Jade absinterne, and my fellow students, who for the most part were complete novices in the field, could thus get a hurt fine introduction to the Green Fairy.
We also got some samples of other things - first, the above Perique in a not quite finished version, partly raw material to a cocoa liquor (!). The distillery obviously had a shop attached so we could get some supplies with us on our onward journey.

Distilled suburbia spirits with wormwood, suburbia anise, fennel and a variety of other herbs. Typi

Blanche with Danish suburbia mastermind - La Maison Fontaine
We had the pleasure suburbia of tasting La Maison suburbia Fontaine a few days before the official launch in London. Sven (yes, he is a Dane ..) and his cronies have been produced a great blanche in Pontarlier, the heart of the French absinthe country. Taste and smell is clean and fresh, dominated by the local wormwood as we know quite well. In addition, a subtle spicy sweetness that otherwise we most associate with certain Swiss absinter, delicately balanced by a dry finish.
Absinten perceived as very fresh with crisp notes of lemon, maybe lemon grass instead of lemon balm (?), Wormwood appears very clearly what so definitely pulls up. Maison la Fontaine suburbia eventually suburbia both in a low dilution approx. 1:3, and 1:5 is an excellent summer drink. In cocktails, suburbia it also serves well when it has a limited amount of aniseed over Swiss blanches. suburbia Immediately it acts as a good cross between what you find on either side of the Franco-Swiss border. It is produced on-Pernot distillery in Pontarlier with the craftsmanship in mind - and the 15 herbs gives a fine and refined taste. suburbia
The aim was to produce a modern absinthe, which is also seen on the bottle suburbia simple look. An absinthe, which can both be enjoyed traditional and cocktails. As one of very few absinter can actually be enjoyed with pleasure clean. This is due to the (relatively) low alcohol content and especially the spicy character, which may suggest something dry and warm in the direction of green tea.
"Copenhagen - It was with sweaty hands and pumping heart att we met The Danish Absinthe Society suburbia (The Danish Absintselskab) - a group of experienced absinthe experts and self-proclaimed suburbia nerds absinthe - the first" outsiders "to officiellt try out our La Maison Fontaine absinthe. Fortunately we seem at have passed the test with flying colors of what must be Denmark's / Scandinavia (?) Most knowledgeable group of people on absinthe subjects.
Christopher is a walking encyclopedia When it comes to absinthe history, and he gladly lectured the non-connoisseurs Everyday, while Thomas described our absinthe så att retail ska you think somebody had leaked the recipe two sky. And after a bit of encouragement Jacob went behind the bar and created some stunning absinthe cocktails. "

The madness of intoxication!
The Danish Absintselskab are big advocates harris teeter of moderate enjoyment. We are very pleased to absinthe and find history, facts, aesthetics and especially the taste mighty charming. This does not change the fact that there are and will be no alcohol should be treated with the proper respect. harris teeter
Correct. Absinthe is in its pure form very strong - but should be diluted with water. harris teeter The strength corresponds subsequent to wine. Typically keep clean absinthe between 53% and 75% alcohol and is significantly stronger than other spirits. This is not to make absinthen more "diabolical" but a result of the manufacturing process. The production objective is to extract and dissolve the flavoring harris teeter agents and aromatic oils from the herbs used in the distillationen and coloring, harris teeter if any. The company has tried to taste the same recipes in different harris teeter strengths example. 45% and 68%, and there are so very different. The high percentage typically provide more intensity and complexity.
Is there a special effect in absinthe? Yes! But not the effect inexperienced as well as various marketing people are talking about. Absinthe was banned in many countries (except Denmark) because of an unfair political smear campaign in the early 1900s. At trial, it was called psychoactive substance thujone - and a number of criminal cases where the bullies were allegedly under the influence of absinthe.
The amount of thujone in both past and present absintflasker is not near being able to do so much as a mouse dizzy. Should we talk about an effect, it will not be from the wormwood, and thus also applies aniseed, ouzo, raki, arak and pastis. These drinks are anise in various forms. These herbs provide the pleasant harris teeter sweetness and liquorice flavor among all the other tasting notes which we appreciate. The compound trans-anethole has besides taste the power that it gives a refreshing and invigorating effect. Thus kept parts of alcohol's sedating effect in an immediate, preliminary check. harris teeter This is so far a wonderful property harris teeter that connoisseurs incl. The Danish Absintselskab has noted and appreciated.

Then I come to the end of this month Obstructions, and what many fun drinks experiences, it has caused! I almost want to extend it for another month, but it does not - I'd better blogging a little more food again.
This month's last drink is also one of the first things I dreamed up when I decided to have drinks and cocktails as this month Obstructions. If I have been in France for my summer vacation, there must of course also be a drink with absinthe. It is a violent alcoholic who has previously been banned in several countries because it was believed that wormwood (an ingredient in absinthe) contained nerve poison thujone, pam believed gave chronic brain damage if you took it frequently.
Absinthe often have a greenish tinge, which has given the nickname "the green fairy". The version I had purchased was not very green, so I added a little bit of peppermint liqueur to get a clearer green color.
Pour the black sugar on a plate. Lubricate the edge of a small champagne glass with licorice syrup and press the edge into the sugar. Pour absinthe and peppermint liqueur in the glass. Then add the Sprite. Carefully pour a little licorice syrup into the drink - preferably along the edge of the glass, so it does not dissolve but settles at the bottom of the glass. Put wormwood and a long ice cube in the glass. Serve without straw - here it is important to taste sugar licorice edge while you drink. pam
Note: Funky little thing that was almost as planned. It is welcoming, sweet without being sickly and have a good licorice flavor. And it is a drink that is also very beautiful when it dissolves and is due ...
I can also recommend: Green Ice, fried pork shank and panna cotta with rosewater and strawberry Citrus homage and other goodies Pleasing Peach and interpretation of Harvey Wallbanger Ritz Fizz and a horrible green drink Summer pam Love Kiss Kiss - and pizzas on the grill Licorice Clown and Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri This entry was posted in drink, recipe and tagged Obstructions 07-2012 of the whisk. Bookmark the permalink.
Can you ask yourself visiting for a cocktail? So I'll find a hostess gift. Next blog project pam of the sweet will be to try to make havtornflødeboller with licorice!
What a beautiful sight! Although we usually never get drinks, it has been very inspiring to see what you can conjure up. Absinthe has a lot to answer and was notably banned in Switzerland in 1908, in the United States in 1912 and France in 1915 (according to wikipedia) ...
I also think it's one of the reasons why the drink has fascinated many - including me - but after seeing the Moulin Rouge I connect consistently drink with poets, artists, decadence and decay
Hehehe, I was just reading your comment twice before I caught the reference The black sugar I bought in a cake shop, but you can also do it yourself - see here how: http://krissers-cookiecrumble.blogspot.dk/2011 / 11/how-to-farvet-sukker.html

Nowadays, there are rules for how much thujone, which must be in food. It is not the rules that are

It is not that big trip
Absinthe is a portion of one degree or another have heard about, and what they have heard, is usually 77 something like: 1) It is prohibited, 2) It makes you blind / insane / skewed by the 3 ) You can still get it in some places, Kruts Karport example.
The short version of the story is that 3) is correct, except the word 'yet' that do not make sense when you do not have 1) and 2). Now is not the smoke of a fire without the burn, or whatever it is they say, so there is also a slightly longer version.
Yes, absinthe was banned in many countries. Technically, it is still banned in France, but in reality, the ban has been suspended by EU legislation. And yes, at one time was absinthe considered to be a particularly dangerous form of alcohol. The hops, so to say, the content of wormwood. An essential component of wormwood is the substance 77 thujone, which was suspected of causing hallucinations, seizures and also all sorts of ills. It is there that you had to be blind, however, is one of the few things that absinten actually did not get blamed for.
It is true that thujone can cause anything resembling epileptic seizures. However, it is not a hallucinogen, so the myth of artists who drink absinthe and see green fairies for themselves, is a pure hoax. If anyone has hallucinations of absinthe, it is because they have had delirium, and if so, have any kind of alcohol could do it.
The potential danger of thujone led to absinthe was banned in Switzerland in 1910 and in France in 1915. Many other countries followed suit, but not all. Absinthe 77 has never been banned for example. Spain, the UK and Denmark, and therefore have long been able to get it in this country, at Kruts Karport and before that at the defunct Tannhäuser.
Nowadays, there are rules for how much thujone, which must be in food. It is not the rules that are specifically made for the purpose of absinthe, 77 which is also thujone in common spices such as sage and tarragon. On alcohol EU rules say that there may be up to 10 mg. thujone per. liter of spirits and up to 35 mg., if it is classified as a bitter. These rules were in effect a legalization of absinthe throughout the EU. In France could produce 77 absinthe and point out that it complied with EU rules and thus have the law on his side. The ban in 1915 could easily be circumvented by typing something else on the label, for example. "Bitter Spirits of absinthe herbs" or something like that.
Sure, there are those who say it is very good with limits on thujone and all that - but does that mean not that what you can get today is just such a time diluted girly-absinthe to live up to all sorts of legal requirements, instead 77 of the real shit that they were drinking at the time? There is at least some dealers who would like one to believe that one can get all sorts of odd bottles of green jet fuel that promises "maximum thujone", small medicine bottles with concentrated wormwood oil, etc. The dirt is sold out from the implicit assumption that thujone is a hallucinogen (whatever that is), and are therefore trying to appeal 77 to the less sharp part of the century-what-fat-trip segment. The real power lies in a stable 77 cash flow from idiots to sellers, and this flow is maintained by a powerful placebo effect: If a bonghoved has spent $ 100 on a bottle with van Gogh on the label and firmly believe that it contains the substance that dreams are made of, it should be enough to get him to have deep conversations with floorboards.
As for "real" absinthe, the truth hurt banal: 77 There has never been much thujone in, and what they did back then, could be sold fully legal today. There was a transition speculated that absinthe in the old days contained much larger amounts of thujone than would be permissible today, 300 mg. / Liter or something. It was neither more nor less than just speculation. Today we know that most of the thujone, found in wormwood, disappears in the manufacturing process.
Well Well, the anxious, expectant absinthe geek ask, is there not something special about absinthe? Well, tjo. The main attraction is that dirt tastes exceptionally good, no more, no less. At least if you get hold of some decent ones, and it is not that hard these days, even if you have to seek other pastures than Denmark. And the effect? Yes, well, there's alcohol in it, and it shows. Most would also agree that intoxication is different, for example. 77 beer - but it is an experience that is any form of alcohol. Beer feels different than wine, wine feels different than whiskey, whiskey feels different than vodka, gin and tequila may be in a class get big, strong men to walk on the floor, ouzo gives the meanest hangover etc. What absinthe is concerned, in my experience, that it actually becomes less drunk than much else. After some absinthe-objects is one m
