Researchers from the University of Texas, Kentucky cooking and Maryland conducted a study on 660 subjects aged 60 years, who were not demented, and found that small to moderate alcohol consumption later in life has a beneficial effect cooking on episodic memory, or memory.
A study published in the American Journal of Alzheimer's Disease and Other Dementias shows that moderate alcohol consumption is associated with a greater volume of the hippocampus, areas of the brain important for episodic memory. The research confirmed the causal relationship of volume of that part of the brain with episodic memory. Earlier animal studies have suggested that moderate alcohol consumption keeps volume of the hippocampus of the brain and that alcohol may enhance the secretion of chemical molecules in the brain associated with cognitive and information processing.
Researchers have suggested that there is no significant difference in cognitive function and volume of a specific part of the brain in later life associated with alcohol consumption in middle age. Cognitive abilities and volume cooking of the hippocampus in people who previously, for health or other reasons interrupted alcohol consumption, in the elderly do not differ from the ability and brain volume in people who consumed alcohol were not in middle age.
Of course that in the end we should mention that the potential benefit of small to moderate alcohol consumption diametrically opposite cooking from the effects of excessive alcohol consumption, which is extremely harmful to the brain.
